Cinematic Lessons with John Conroy, ASC, ISC
In this course John Conroy, ASC, ISC demonstrates two methods for simplifying what would otherwise be complex lighting setups by using a crane. Not only do Conroy's methods allow for less lighting setups but it also gives actors and the camera operator more flexibility. Conroy recreates his crane setups used for lighting larger productions while also showing how he would achieve a comparable look on a lower budget.
John Conroy has been a member of the ASC since 2021. Also a member of Irish Society of Cinematographers (ISC), he began his career as a teenager, working on sets as a clapper and best boy. Since then, he has amassed an impressive credit list, which includes more than 90 productions. His list of collaborators includes such filmmakers as Tim Burton, Ron Howard, Paul Greengrass, Jim Sheridan, John Boorman and Joel Schumacher.
Conroy photographed the acclaimed British crime series Luther, which earned him BAFTA and Emmy Award nominations, and garnered another BAFTA nomination for his camerawork on the British thriller Fortitude.
He also earned the 2020 ASC Award for Motion Picture, Miniseries, or Pilot Made for Television for his work on the AMC miniseries The Terror: Infamy, as well as an additional ASC Award nomination for Showtime’s horror drama Penny Dreadful
