Tobias Schliessler, ASC was behind the camera for director Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of the beloved book by Madeleine L’Engle. The story follows Meg Murry (Storm Reid) as she embarks on a fantastic journey to rescue her father, Dr. Alex Murry (Chris Pine), who’s being held captive on a far-distant planet. Schliessler and his collaborators detail their work on the production, which took place in and around Los Angeles, with additional work in New Zealand.

Isle of Dogs

Tristan Oliver reteamed with his Fantastic Mr. Fox director, Wes Anderson, for this stop-motion adventure populated by a ragtag group of castaway dogs and a 12-year-old boy who will go to any lengths to find his lost canine. Oliver offers his insights on navigating the unique challenges of capturing Anderson’s signature stylistics at the miniaturized stop-motion scale.

General Hospital

AC checked into the eponymous hospital for an in-depth, firsthand look behind the scenes of this fast-paced production — the longest-running American daytime soap opera on television. As the production reaches its 55th anniversary, producers, camera operators, cast members, the lighting director and more discuss what it takes to keep the drama airing five days a week.

Jo Willems, ASC, SBC and director Francis Lawrence follow their collaboration on the last three Hunger Games movies with this stylish modern-day thriller about a ballerina (Jennifer Lawrence) who’s enlisted into Russia’s intelligence service following an accident that ended her stage career. Willems offers intel from the making of the movie, which shot in multiple countries throughout Europe.

7 Days in Entebbe

Lula Carvalho, ASC, ABC joined director José Padilha to tell the story of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight, and the daring rescue mission that ensued. Carvalho shares his approach to the period story and discuss his ongoing collaboration with Padilha; their previous work together includes the features Elite Squad and RoboCop (2014).
